Out of 200,000 PhDs who graduate in the US each year, fewer than 200 receive formal, systematic training to help them communicate their research effectively. Why is that a problem? Because without the skills to communicate their discoveries, scientists share their work with the public as if they were speaking to their academic peers. The consequence is that brilliant, impactful ideas remain in the lab. That is a problem, and I want to solve it.

I’m Marlit Hayslett, PhD, and I am a communication coach for scientists. Over the years, I have trained hundreds of people to think strategically about their audiences, tailor their message to that audience, and prepare them to deliver an effective communication.
